Course overview
The Split System Air-conditioning course is in the Engineering and Related Technologies Field of Education.
Develop your electrical skills and enhance your practical skills and knowledge with this course and become part of a growing industry.
In this course you will learn how to install, decommission, and commission single head, split air- conditioning systems. The training you will receive can be applied to wall hung, floor and ceiling-suspended, cassette and ducted fan coil systems using new environmentally friendly refrigerants.
You will also learn to
- Flare copper and install pipework
- Solder join copper pipework
- Pressurize pipework with dry nitrogen and test for leaks
- Vacuum pipework to remove air and moisture
- Add additional gas for longer pipe runs
- Reclaim gas
- Position, assemble and start up single-head split air-conditioning units and systems to a prescribed routine.
Industry experienced trainers will give you all the support you will need, and with specifically designed smaller face to face classes it allows the trainers to have proper one-on-one time with all of the students. This course does not include competencies required for service, repair, maintenance, diagnostic/fault finding or the safe and proper installation of commercial refrigeration, air-conditioning equipment.
Requirements for completion of this qualification
The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to under go a combination of face to face workshops, practical training and assessment in a simulated environment and online learning. You are also required to complete additional tasks in your own time, generally 10 hours per week of self-study throughout the course. You will be provided with a workbook for each section and a workplace logbook.
Who should do this course?
This practical course has been designed for people who meet one of the following criteria:
- Fully qualified electrician
- Second year electrical apprentice who has successfully completed first year.
- Trades background with at least five-year’s experience in the construction industry.
Entry requirements:
This qualification has no formal entry requirements; however, we require that applicants provide evidence of:
- Electrical qualification and license or
- Successfully completing year 1 of electrical apprenticeship (statement of results)
- Trades background with at least five-year’s experience in the construction industry.
- a Statement of Attainment for CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry or CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work safely in the construction industry
- All students are required to read the student handbook and enrolment form prior to enrolling into this course.
