Why should I enrol in this course?
Globally the HVAC&R industry is evolving and changing mainly due to:
- Increasing energy costs
- The increasing cost of HFC and HCFC costs
- The phase out of HCFC’s
Your clients will continue to seek ways to reduce their ongoing costs along with and power consumption costs. As a result we forecast that within the next 10 years the fast majority of HVAC&R infrastructure will be replaced with natural refrigerant solutions.
To meet these demands you will need to be qualified to handle natural refrigerants including:
- Ammonia
- Carbon Dioxide
- Hydrocarbons
Hydrocarbon training is now needed more than ever, as hydrocarbons are now one of the cheaper and most talked about alternative refrigerants in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. They are relatively new in the Australian industry and are quickly being adopted due to their energy efficiencies and cost. Hydrocarbons are Natural Refrigerants and NOT taxed by the recently introduced Australian Carbon Tax.
Due to hydrocarbons being relatively new to the Australian industry, there are many myths and misconceptions on their refrigerant properties, abilities and applications. For this reason the College of Climate Change sees the need for further training and education to the trade.
Hydrocarbons are one of the greatest refrigerants available. Yes, they are flammable, but if handled correctly and safely then the risks can be minimized. The Australian Standards have been designed to minimize all risks with all refrigerants and should be followed at all times. There is also a number of sensors, signage and other safety design parameters that can be used and applied to maintain safety.
Hydrocarbons are non-toxic, unlike most HFC and HCFC refrigerants that are being used and accidentally breathed in by refrigeration mechanics. All refrigerants have their problems and issues, therefore it is important to understand and minimize them.
As consumers begin to search for methods to reduce their power consumption, environmental impact and the cost of ongoing refrigerant servicing, hydrocarbons will gain even further popularity.
The College of Climate Change is worried about the potential miss-use and lack of education in regards to how to safely handle and retrofit hydrocarbons. This is why the College of Climate Change provides hydrocarbon training for the industry.
Hydrocarbon refrigerants offer:
- Greater energy efficiency
- HFC levy avoidance
- Improved performance – eg. Faster pull down times & improved reliability in high ambient conditions
- Retrofit and OEM solutions that your clients will need and want to consider
- Reduction in head pressures
